YapCampus ("YapCampus", "we", "us", or "our") is an anonymous social app for verified college students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account & verification data. When you sign up, we collect your college email address or student ID to confirm you're a real, currently enrolled student. We use this only to verify eligibility and, if you set one, to help you recover your account. It is never shown to other users.

Profile data. A username or anonymous handle, your campus/college, and any avatar you choose. We do not require or display your real name.

Content you create. Posts, comments, votes, polls, chat messages, and reports you submit, along with timestamps and the channel/campus they belong to.

Device & usage data. Device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, and general usage analytics (e.g. which features are opened) to help us fix bugs and improve the app.

Push notification tokens. We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications (replies, votes, mentions, campus alerts). This requires a device token tied to your install, not your identity.

Content submitted for moderation. Photos, video, or text you upload are processed by automated safety systems (including AI models) before being published, to detect content that violates our rules.

2. What we don't collect

  • We do not display your real name, email, or student ID to other users.
  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
  • We do not require access to your contacts to use the app.

3. How we use your information

  • To verify you are an eligible, currently enrolled student at a supported campus.
  • To operate core features: feeds, posts, comments, votes, polls, chat, and campus-specific content.
  • To detect and remove content that violates our Community Guidelines (harassment, threats, doxxing, illegal content) using a combination of automated screening and human review of reports.
  • To send push notifications you haven't opted out of.
  • To maintain security, prevent abuse (e.g. spam, ban evasion, fake accounts), and comply with legal obligations.
  • To analyze aggregated, de-identified usage trends to improve the product.

4. Anonymity & how it works

Your posts, comments, and votes are shown to other users without your name, email, or student ID attached. Internally, we retain the minimum link between an account and its content necessary to enforce our rules, respond to valid legal requests, and act on reports of harassment, threats, or illegal activity. This internal record is not visible to other users and is not used to "unmask" you publicly.

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who host our infrastructure, send push notifications, or run automated moderation on our behalf, bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Your college/university, only where required for enrollment verification, and never including the content of your posts.
  • Law enforcement or authorities, only when required by valid legal process, or to prevent imminent harm to a person's safety.
  • A successor entity, if YapCampus is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy continuing to apply.

6. Data retention

We keep account and verification data for as long as your account is active. Posts and comments you delete are removed from public view promptly and purged from backups on a routine schedule. We may retain limited records for a longer period where necessary to investigate abuse reports or meet legal obligations.

7. Your choices & rights

  • You can edit your profile and delete your own posts, comments, or account at any time from within the app.
  • You can request a copy of your data, or request deletion of your account and associated data, by emailing us.
  • You can turn off push notifications in your device settings at any time.
  • If you are located in a region with statutory privacy rights (e.g. GDPR, DPDP Act), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or restrict the use of your data - contact us to exercise them.

8. Children's privacy

YapCampus is intended for college students who are 17 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to promptly investigate and address any issue.

10. International users

YapCampus is operated from India and currently focused on Indian campuses. If you access the app from outside India, your information will be processed in India and other locations where our service providers operate.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of YapCampus after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
