These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the YapCampus mobile app and website (together, the "Service"), operated by YapCampus ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 17 years old.
  • You must be a currently enrolled student at a college or university supported by YapCampus, verifiable via a college email address or student ID.
  • You must be able to form a binding contract and not be barred from using the Service under applicable law.
  • One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to evade a ban or manipulate votes is not allowed.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@yapcampus.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

3. Anonymity is a privilege, not a shield

YapCampus lets you post without your name attached to other users. This is meant to enable honesty, not to enable harm. We retain the minimum information needed to identify the source of a post internally, so we can enforce these Terms, respond to reports, and comply with the law even when your identity is hidden from other users.

4. Content rules

You agree not to post, send, or upload content that:

  • Harasses, bullies, threatens, or incites violence against any person or group.
  • Doxxes anyone - shares a private individual's real name, phone number, address, photo, or other identifying information without consent.
  • Is defamatory, or knowingly false and intended to damage someone's reputation.
  • Depicts or promotes child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content involving minors - this results in an immediate, permanent ban and a report to the relevant authorities.
  • Promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders as desirable outcomes.
  • Is hateful or discriminatory based on caste, religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
  • Sells or promotes illegal goods or services, or facilitates academic dishonesty (e.g. selling exam answers).
  • Infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights.
  • Spams, impersonates another person or institution, or attempts to manipulate votes/polls.

Content is screened by automated systems, including AI, before or shortly after posting, and may be blurred, restricted, or removed if it appears to violate these rules. Users can also report content for human review. Repeated or severe violations result in suspension or a permanent ban.

5. Your content, your responsibility

You retain ownership of the content you post. By posting, you grant YapCampus a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content within the Service, solely to operate and promote the Service (e.g. showing your post in the feed, or in a campus digest). You are solely responsible for the content you submit and for having the rights to post it.

6. Moderation & enforcement

We may remove content, restrict features, suspend, or permanently ban any account that violates these Terms, at our discretion and without prior notice where necessary to prevent harm. You can appeal a moderation decision by emailing hello@yapcampus.com.

7. Reporting

If you see content that violates these Terms, report it in-app. Reports are reviewed by our safety systems and, where needed, human moderators from your campus community. Misusing the report feature to silence legitimate speech is itself a violation of these Terms.

8. Intellectual property

The YapCampus name, logo, app, and underlying software are owned by YapCampus and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by applicable law.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party infrastructure (such as cloud hosting and push notification delivery) to operate. We are not responsible for outages or issues caused by those providers outside our reasonable control.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any user-generated content, including AI-generated digests or summaries.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, YapCampus and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including content posted by other users. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms is limited to the amount, if any, you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where reasonably possible.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
